Monastery Schntal
Imbedded in a wide loop of the river Jagst, the monastery Schntal housed monks for around 600 years. The monks of Maulbronn founded the monastery in the 12th century, which is surrounded by defence walls and gate towers. The monasteryexperienced its heydays in the 15th century despite repetitive devastation. The monastery has to thank mostly abbot Benedikt Knittel for its present appearance.
In 1716 the building of the new minster started. The artworks, like the high altarleaf Maria Himmelfahrt were taken from the previous building.
