Jagsthausen - The Castle Festivals

The idyllic Jagst valley with G�tzen-castle, red and white palace, Burgmuseum (castle museum),gallery with old town hall, open-air museum, sculpture exhibition, castle festivals with G�tz von Berlichingen, musical, children's play, concerts and guest performances is idea for a stay.

The "G�tzen Castle"
G�tz von Berlichingen, probably the most famous castle resident was the castle's name giver, which emerged from a moat castle of the masters from Hausen.
The facility, consisting of a two-winged core building was built in the 15th and 16th century by the family von Berlichingen. The G�tzen-castle, which has been altered several times duing its history, was birthplace of the "Knight with the iron Hand". G�tz von Berlichingen (1480-1562) was born here in the year 1480.
The design by the master builder August von Beyer, who also built the Ulm minsterlead between 1876 and 1878 to the castle's biggest redesign, whereby also asouth-wing and the gate tower were added as well as the park surrounding the castle.
His right hand, which G�tz had lost 1504during theLandshut War of Succession, was replaced with an iron prosthesis, the so-called "iron fist". This fistas well as further utensils of the famous knigthis exhibited at the Burgmuseum. His distinctive and memorable words "leck mich...." (kiss my...) were supposedly uttered here a the castle.
The drama "G�tz von Berlichingen", written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe madeG�tz immortal. This drama has been performed open-air since 1950 annually between June and Augustin the castle courtyard of this imposing castle, which is still owned today by the family von Berlichingen. The G�tzen plays from Jagsthausen have become by now classics among the open-air theatres.
